Nicholson A1 Debarker The Nicholson A1 Debarker is the fastest and most heavily built Nicholson sliding ring chain feed debarker. The A1 is designed for the toughest medium speed debarking applications and is available in 27, 35 and 44 inch ring sizes and in single or tandem ring configurations. Short log and high lift bypass versions are also available. The A1 cleanly debarks hardwoods and softwoods at temperatures down to – 40F (- 40C). The A1’s powered chain feedworks positively moves even very crooked logs through the debarker. The vertically sliding ring uses a hydraulic cylinder to automatically center the ring on the incoming log. Logs stay at a constant elevation in the A1 to simplify conveyor requirements. Wide, rugged, high tensile, wear resistant alloy cast steel chain is standard on the A1. Hydraulic cylinders on holddown rolls are also standard, providing smooth and precise roll action. Spherical roller bearings in steel housings are used on all holddown roll shafts and feedworks headshafts for maximum durability. Automatic control of knife arms and holddown rolls is standard. Automatic knife arm control provides additional log end protection and maximizes ring component life. Three Nicholson ring types are available on the A1 Debarker: The Nicholson Air Seal Ring lets the operator change arm pressure and open or close the ring during debarking.  The environmentally and economically sound Ring Oil Recirculation is available on the Air Seal ring as an option. The Nicholson Air Cell Ring is a simple fixed pressure ring where the operator adjusts arm pressure with the ring stopped. The Air Cell ring is available in 27, 35 and 44 inch ring sizes. The Patented Nicholson Stringy Bark Slitter Ring for problem species like Cedar, Redwood and Eucalypt can be provided in Tandem A1 configurations as a preprocessing ring ahead of a standard ring. The Stringy Bark Slitter Ring cuts the long bark strands into short segments that can then be easily removed, conveyed and hogged.
